THE ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA ENTERTAINS WITH GROUNDBREAKING FILMS, TRAVERSING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUMANS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTS, CHALLENGING THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THE NATURAL WORLD AND INSPIRING THEM TO DISCUSS, EXPLORE AND ACT ON IMPORTANT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.

OUR MISSION

EFFA is more than just a film festival – it's a catalyst for positive and sustainable change.

Our film screenings get viewers thinking and feeling. Our panel discussions and debates get audiences talking and asking questions. Our partners provide opportunities for individual and collective action. We connect conscious consumers with ethical organisations, then direct them to act.

Our programme takes audiences on a deeper exploration of the issues. We’re fuelling conversation about how to make the world a better place, now and into the future. EFFA brings business people, scientists, government, academics, creatives, and environmentalists together for expert panel discussions that get viewers actively involved.

And it’s not just talk. Attendees are given clear directions for action. We present and promote sustainable solutions provided by our partner organisations.

The Environmental Film Festival Australia began in 2010 (As EFF Melbourne) with a vision to inform, engage and inspire on the environmental issues that affect us today and has since grown into one of Melbourne’s most notable ‘green’ events, weaving its way into the colourful tapestry that is Melbourne's arts and cultural life. With this growing success, and a willing team, the festival has expanded to spread the power of environmental films to more people, across more cities. In 2016 EFFA expects to travel to Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Launceston and potentially regional towns.

We feature films from the world’s most talented and socially-cons ious filmmakers. Our program delivers information, inspiration and – above all – a sense of hope for the future.

We embrace diversity and champion local, minority and creative voices. Issues and solutions are linked to the audience’s values, maximising relevance and motivating them to take action. Topics explored include: sustainability, habitats, geography, urban life, the awe of beautiful places, and the connections and challenges between people and place.

We’re dedicated to programming by, for, and about Australians. We focus on supporting local talent and target 30% local content. EFFA acknowledges Australia’s First Nations, and actively seeks to represent indigenous perspectives throughout the festival. It’s part of our broader strategy for connecting issues, ideas and communities.

EFFA gives Australians a glimpse into some of the most pertinent environmental issues facing the world today and reminds us that these issues are not all happening in faraway places, they are happening right here on our doorstep - and, it's time for all Australians to stand up and be a part of the solution.
